Samsung Galaxy s8: New Leader on Board

Samsung has always been criticised for following the same design pattern for all their smartphones. Whether it's an entry level budget smartphone or high-end flagship device, they always have the same design for all of their products. From using plastic to 'pleather' or plastic leather on their smartphones, they have done kind of craps making their phones even worst then before.

The thing started to change when they realised the importance of design and introduced Corning Gorilla Glass back-panel, metal frame and curved display. The newly designed devices received good response from everyone. This year, they introduced their new flagship device, the Galaxy S8. Let's find out how good or bad this device is and whether it's worth buying or not?

Review

The Galaxy S8 was announced in the month of March by the company and since then there was a great buzz around the product. Once the company started with the pre-booking, they have received brilliant response from the consumer. In India, the deal was 'Free wireless dock with every pre-order'. This was a great move by the company as the dock itself worth 4000 INR.

The Galaxy S8 follows the same 'Edge' pattern like its predecessor Galaxy S7 Edge. The company this time dropped 'Edge' word from the name as they did not introduced a plain version of the smartphone. But, that's the only thing that is common between these two devices. Talking about the design, the company has made numerous changes for making the device more attractive and user-friendly. They have dropped the physical keys on the smartphone and used the space for the display instead. There curved display runs from side-to-side making it more attractive. It's not about the width anymore, the company rather focused on the height of the product and reduced the width for better experience.

The phone's display is probably the best display I have seen in a smartphone till date. The resolution is perfect for the screen and the best part is you can change and adjust the resolution as per your own wish. You can choose between HD, Full HD and Quad HD modes. This helps in saving the battery life to a great extent which is one of the concern for a smartphone user. The curved display completes the look of the smartphone and makes the movie watching experience even better. Samsung did not just emphasised on the designed, they have also paid attention to the safety by providing Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the back and IP68 certified water and dust resistance.

Another important thing that consumer looks for in a phone is the camera. Samsung has been working on their camera for a while now and they have added tons of new features in this device. Both the cameras are simply amazing or I should say the best camera phone I have seen this year (so far). The primary camera is capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, so you just need to buy a new TV to display the content as the phone's display does not support 4K content (just saying!). Other features like OIS and low light photography adds some additional points to the camera's total.
The secondary camera is also as incredible as the primary one. It can record videos at QHD mode and click some astonishing low-light selfies. The features in the Samsung's camera app further enhances the images for better.

S8 backWhen someone spends a hefty sum of money on something then they expect them to deliver and believe me this phone will not disappoint you in any department, including performance and safety. The gadget boosts an Exynos 8895 Octa core chipset and Mali- G71 GPU. The combined performance of both is just out of the league and I literally meant that. It will be non-sense to talk whether the device hangs when we are talking about a flagship smartphone from a reputed brand, but the way it handles multiple tasks and the time it takes to process is unbelievable. The RAM compliment both chipset and GPU. The phone runs on the latest version of Android, i.e. Nougat with TouchWiz UI on the top. You will also notice some key changes in the UI of the phone.
The introduction of the Iris scanner with the finger print scanner is okay, but I found that too be just a marketing gimmick and not very practical. Ohh and did I mentioned that the fingerprint scanner is now on the back of the device. I'm not saying that it should not be there in the device but it is not practical to use. You need to hold the device at a certain level and distance to make it work. It is fast but you can use the same old fingerprint scanner to do so which is equally fast and reliable.

There are tons of only features like Samsung DeX (the desktop experience support), Samsung Pay (for making card less payments), NFC, Heart rate sensor, 64 GB internal memory (Hybrid slot), Type-C connector and to top it all a 3000 mAh Li-ion Non-removable battery.

Overall, I loved the device and I would like to see more such products from Samsung. Apart from the 4K missing in the display (I still love the existing one) and Iris scanner, I don't think there is any other flaw in the device. I will give it an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 for it's insanely good looks and amazing camera and display.
