If you are a beginner to lifting or a fitness enthusiast, I’m sure that you must have heard people around you saying such stuff. If you are in India, then this is very common for you to hear and not just people, but even your parents ask you to not take Whey Protein. Not only Indian parents consider Whey Protein as bad, but they also consider it as Steroid!

The only reason behind people considering it as a Steroid is “Lack of Education”. For those who don’t know, Whey Protein is extracted from the water (or Whey), which is left out after you extract Paneer (or cottage cheese) from Milk and it has all the Amino Acids present in it. It is not a Steroid, on the contrary, it is 100% Natural. There are huge refineries to extract Whey solids from that Whey liquid and it takes approximately 720 lbs of Whey liquid to make just 5 lbs of Whey protein powder! Insane, right?!

Now it’s time to change and to bust myths that are going around Whey Proteins from a very long period. Presenting, 7 Must-known Facts about Whey protein

Are you also one of those who buy BCAAs supplement? Wait and check out the ingredients label of your Whey Protein supplement. On an average, Whey protein have around 5 grams of BCAAs per serving! Protein is nothing but a combination of Amino acids. Everything that contains Protein, consists of Essential Amino Acids (EAAs) and Non-Essential Amino Acids and BCAA falls under EAAs.
Your Whey Protein supplement has all the three BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine), Leucine being the most important of all as it helps in Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) post-workout. So stop spending your hard-earned money on BCAAs, until you are a professional bodybuilder or fitness model.

4. Most Prevalent Myth- The Kidney Stones!

Statements like, “Whey Protein gives you kidney stones!” are very common to hear, especially in India. The truth is that it applies to all kinds of protein consumed whether in the form of supplement or food. The Whey protein isn’t the only thing responsible for kidney stones, your daily food like eggs, chicken or even paneer (cottage cheese) are equally responsible.
When your daily diet has got protein in any form, you tend to get dehydrated because your kidney uses lots of amount of water to process that protein. For that matter, you need to drink at least 3 litres to water everyday to help your kidneys process that amount of protein. Also, try and consume only that much amount which is required by your body. Don’t overdose!

This one is specially for chemists and Indian parents. If you go to a chemist shop and ask them to give you protein supplement for your kid, I’m damn sure that they are going to advice you to not take it and go for some sports drink or sugar-cocoa malted drink. The parents are going to take their advice and buy the other drink instead.
This is the worst thing they could do to their child. The companies that manufacture these sugar-rich drinks, market them in such a way that our Indian parents fall into their trap very easily. They claim to sharpen kids brain, increase their height and give them stronger bones. Well, how can sugar and cocoa gives your child something like that? Sure, they have some added vitamins and minerals that can help but aren’t they charging us too much for that. Don’t you think?

I’m sure you do. Your shampoo also consists of protein which helps your hair grow a little stronger and thicker. Just think for a second, when you are applying something in your hair to help them grow, how can that thing leads to your hair fall.
This myth came into existence because of body builders. You must have noticed that most of the body builders are bald. The reason is not the protein, but the anabolic substances they use.
