Nokia X
After the Lumia series and Asha series, Nokia recently announced their new Android-based Nokia X series. Now, the interesting part is Nokia is now a part of Microsoft. So the question here is, Whether Microsoft will support these devices in future or not?
This is the review of first member of the X-family, the Nokia X.Let us have a look at the tech specs:
The device is 2G-3G-WiFi ready and comes in Dual SIM option. The weight of this Dual SIM phone is equivalent to the most popular Windows Phone, the Lumia 520 (i.e., 128g). The phone has a 4 inch IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen which supports 16M colors with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and the pixel density of 233ppi. The internal storage of this device is 4GB which can be expanded upto 32GB with the help of microSD card.
The Nokia X also sport a 3.15MP primary camera which is capable of recording videos at 480p resolution. And I missed a point. It's a fixed focus camera.
The phone runs on the "forked" version of Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) which is re-named as Nokia X platform. For handling tasks, it has a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play chipset and 512MB RAM and for gaming, it has Adreno 203 GPU. A 1500 mAh battery provides juice for it's all day operations.
Review:
This is another gorgeous looking device from Nokia. I really liked it's design and built-quality. The touchscreen is quite impressive and the display is also decent enough to compete with it's rival Samsung Galaxy Trend. Another thing which is impressive about this device is the Nokia X platform. It's a whole new experience of Android. Now here I want to clarify one thing that it's a "forked" version of Android, which means that this device will not have any services by the search giant, Google. On the contrary, the X-platform features all the services by Microsoft. The apps can be downloaded from the Nokia Store and other third-party stores like 1 Mobile and Yandex Store.
Now taking about it's performance, well. It's a good device and it's performance is also satisfactory. There are some lags and the phone hangs but at the end of the day it's performance is good. The camera is also average and here please don't even think of low light photography because the flash is absent. The UI or User-Interface is new and reminds me of Windows Phone 8. Here you can actually resize the tiles. The specifications are also not very pleasing but I don't think that it's fair to demand more from this phone.
Having said all that now it's time for the verdict:
Nokia X is an average device according to me. I am impressed with it's looks and the Nokia X platform but I am not very impressed with it's performance. It's better than the device like Samsung Galaxy Trend with I would still suggest that go for Nokia Lumia 520 at this price range because it's specifications are much better plus it will be getting an upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 in near future. The only advantage of Nokia X over Nokia Lumia 520 is the app ecosystem. The Nokia X being an Android powered device will support more apps than the Nokia Lumia 520.
I will rate it 3.5 out of 5.
