Microsoft Lumia 540 Dual SIM

The Lumia 5xx-series smartphones have always grabbed attention of both buyers and critics. These smartphones are known for their amazing design and value for money features. The Lumia 535 was the last 5xx-series device and it got a really good response.
Microsoft has always focused on providing customer-oriented products and this time they have come up with their new 5xx-series device, the Lumia 540.
Let's check out the tech specs of this cool looking yet affordable Lumia.

Tech Specs:

The Lumia 540 is a Dual SIM device with 2G-3G-WiFi connectivity options. The phone has a 5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive Touchscreen which supports 16M colours. The display has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and pixel density of 294 ppi. For better performance, the screen has an additional ClearBlack Technology. Sadly, the Corning Gorilla Glass is missing from the display.

The smartphone comes with an 8 MP primary camera with LED flash and 5 MP front-facing camera. Sadly, both the cameras cannot record videos in HD mode. This is a serious disadvantage if you like recording videos. The phone has an internal memory of 8 GB which is expandable up to 128 GB using a microSD card. The other connectivity options available in the device are USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP.

The Lumia 540 runs on the latest version of Windows Phone, i.e. Windows Phone 8.1 (Lumia Denim). It is packed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Quad-core chipset which is clocked at 1.2 GHz with a combination of 1 GB RAM. For a rich gaming experience, an additional Adreno 302 GPU is also available. A 2200 mAh Li-ion battery provides backup to this device.

Review:

The Lumia 540 is another good looking device from Microsoft. The built quality and design are also impressive. The best part is its availability in funky colours like orange and blue (or cyan). The display of this device is also its highlight. The screen supports HD resolution and the pixel count is also impressive for a budget phone. The ClearBlack display technology improves its performance, but the absence of Corning Gorilla Glass protection is a disadvantage.

The phone packs an 8 MP primary camera and 5 MP secondary camera. Both the cameras perform well during day-light conditions. The primary camera features LED flash which is good for clicking pictures during low-light conditions but you cannot record videos in HD resolution. The secondary camera is also brilliant for clicking selfies and making video calls over Skype.

The device runs on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS with Lumia Denim, which is upgradable to Windows 10 OS. The processor in the device is decent but quite outdated. I think, Microsoft must have considered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor for an even rich and better performance. Not only this, the GPU is also outdated. The RAM is sufficient for multi-tasking and the battery also lasts a day with moderate usage.

Verdict:

Microsoft Lumia 540 is a 'pure' budget smartphone. Now you must be thinking, what do I mean by 'pure'? Well, this phone is not loaded with features. It has some pros like its display and front camera but absence of HD video recording and outdated CPU and GPU cannot be ignored.
I will recommend this device only to beginners and those people who just need a smartphone for normal daily usage. I will give Lumia 540, 3 points out of 5.
