Moto E (2nd Gen.) XT1521 (4G)
Motorola’s devices have always received praises from
the audience as well as the critics. The company is known for their quality
products at an affordable price. Keeping up with the same tradition, the
company recently launched an affordable LTE-enabled smartphone in the market,
the Moto E (2nd Gen.) 4G.
Let’s find out the cool and not-so-cool things about the device.
Tech
Specs:
The Moto E (2nd Gen) XT1521 comes with
2G-3G-LTE support with Dual SIM card slot. It features a 4.5 inch IPS LCD
Capacitive touchscreen which supports 16M colours. The display has a qHD
resolution (540 x 960 pixels) and pixel count of 245 ppi. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and oleophobic
coating provides the necessary protection to the display.
For photography, the smartphone has an in-built 5 MP
primary camera and a front facing VGA camera. The primary camera can record HD
videos at 720p resolution. Surprisingly, the flash is absent. The phone comes
with 8 GB of internal storage which could be expanded up to 32 GB with the help
of a microSD card. For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 4.0 with LE, Wi-Fi
support, microUSB 2.0 with USB Host.
The phone runs on the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of
the box, upgradable to Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It packs a 64-bit Qualcomm
Snapdragon 410 Quad-core processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. The processor is
complimented by 1 GB RAM and a dedicated Adreno 306 GPU. A 2390 mAh Li-ion
battery provides necessary juice to the device.
Review:
The Moto E (2nd Gen.) XT1521 is an
average looking device. To be really honest, I am not really impressed with the
looks of the device. It is not only thick but also weighs whooping 145g, which
is quite heavy for a smartphone. Though, I liked the round edges and the
built-quality.
The display of this smarphone comes with qHD
resolution which is decent enough for 4.5 inch screen size. The pixel density
and sunlight readability are also above average. The IPS panel gives better
viewing angles to the display. Use of the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and
oleophobic coating are also advantageous.
The performance of both the cameras is below
satisfactory. Though, the primary camera performs well during broad day-light
conditions but you will miss the flash during night. The secondary camera
performs in an atrocious manner.
Talking about the performance of the device, then I
must say that Motorola never disappoints in this department. The Android 5.0
(Lollipop) works smoothly with few lags. The overall multi-tasking capability
of the smartphone has also improved. The gaming experience seems quite
promising (keeping price in mind). The battery also lasts over a day with good
amount of usage.
Verdict:
Why
you should consider the Moto E (2nd Gen.) 4G?
- Dual SIM, LTE support
- Decent display
- Good performance
- Amazing battery life
- Regular Updates
Why
you should not consider the Moto E
(2nd Gen.) 4G?
- Below average looks
- Not-so-good secondary camera
- No flash
If
you can ignore the above mentioned points, then I think this device is
worth-buying. There are very few devices that are offering 4G support at this
price point. But, I can’t ignore these things, so I will rate it 3.5 out of 5.
