Microsoft Lumia 640 Dual SIM
Microsoft is looking quite aggressive and trying really
hard to gain some market share. After launching some entry-level and ultra
affordable Windows Phones, they are now backing again to the budget segment
devices. Few days back, the Redmond-giant launched Lumia 640 Dual SIM in India.
Let us check out the performance of the budget centric- Lumia 640 Dual SIM.
Tech
Specs:
The Lumia 640 Dual SIM
is a 2G-3G-WiFi ready device. It has a 5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive touch screen
which supports up to 16M colours. The screen has an HD resolution (720p) with decent 294 ppi pixel count.
For better experience, it also features the ClearBlack display technology and
the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 provides necessary protection to the display.
The phone features an 8
MP rear camera with features like auto focus and LED flash and a 0.9 MP front
camera for clicking selfies. The primary camera can record videos in Full HD
mode (1080p@30fps). The Lumia comes
with 8 GB internal space which could be expanded up to 128 GB with the help of
a microSD card. Other connectivity options available in the device are microUSB
2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP.
The device runs on the
latest version of Windows Phone 8.1 (Lumia
Denim) and will be upgraded to Windows 10. It packs a Qualcomm MSM8926
Snapdragon 400 Quad-core chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz. It is complimented by 1 GB
of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. A 2500 mAh Li-ion battery provides the power to
this device.
Review:
The Lumia 640 is a
gorgeous looking device. Though, the design looks quite similar to other Lumia
smartphones, which is a negative point. Another disadvantage, which I felt is
the absence of LTE mode. But, in India we could ignore this because 4G is still
not available in many cities. The display is good with decent resolution and
fair pixel- count. The ClearBlack technology enhances the performance and the
Corning Gorilla Glass 3 makes the screen scratch resistant. The IPS technology gives
you better viewing angles.
The camera of Lumia 640
is also one of its highlights. The primary camera performs well in day-light as
well as low-light conditions. The Lumia Camera app improves the picture quality
and provides more photography modes. The secondary camera, though, is not as
impressive as the primary camera but performs fine.
The performance of this
device is lag-free. All credit goes
to the operating system, chipset and RAM. The Quad-core processor is enough for
a Windows Phone 8.1 device with a combination of 1 GB RAM. Though, the
processor and the GPU are quite old now. The GPU handles some high end games
very easily but performance is laggy at times.
Verdict:
The
Lumia 640 can be considered, if you could ignore few things like absence of LTE
mode, ordinary performance of the front camera and outdated GPU. The problem is
the availability of many Windows Phones devices within same price range and surprisingly
or unsurprisingly, most of them carry the “Microsoft”-tag. At times, it becomes
very difficult for a consumer to choose a device from the available options.
Well,
I don’t want to get into all these “corporate strategies”. Coming back to the
device, I will rate it 3.5 out of 5.
Hope
you liked the review. Thanks for reading! :-)
