Panasonic Eluga S
There are many
cell-phone manufacturing units present in the market. Some of them are
established, while many are still trying to compete and mark their presence
globally. One such brand is Panasonic.
Panasonic is a world
renowned Consumer-electronics manufacturer. They stepped into the Mobile phone
industry, after a long break and launched the Eluga-series recently. The series
consist of Eluga A, Eluga I, Eluga S and Eluga U. This review is all about the
pocket-friendly, Eluga S.
Tech Specs:
The Eluga S, like many
of its competitors comes with Dual-SIM slot. This device is 2G-3G-WiFi ready. It has a 5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen
display with 260 ppi pixel density and 720p resolution. The phone features an 8
MP primary snapper with LED Flash and a 5 MP secondary camera from clicking
selfies. The primary camera can record videos in Full HD resolution.
The smartphone has an
internal storage of 8 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB with the help of
microSD card. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB.
The device runs on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). It is
powered by MediaTek MT6592 True Octa-core chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz, which
is complimented by 1 GB RAM. Though, I couldn’t find out about the GPU, but it
seems like Mali-450MP4
(I am not sure on this).
The Eluga S
has a 2100 mAh Li-ion non-removable battery, which lasts for a day with limited
usage.
Review:
The Eluga S is a good looking smartphone. Stitched
faux leather gives it a premium look and feel, but at the same time reminds me
of Samsung Galaxy Grand 2. The display of the device is impressive. The viewing
angles and pixel density are good but the sunlight readability is average.
The phone packs two baronial and unique features,
i.e. the UI and Blink Play. The one-handed operation is really amazing feature
of the UI. A person can easily operate the phone with single hand and swipe
through the menu using this feature. Whereas, the Blink Play is feature for
taking Selfies. The front-camera recognizes the eye motion and activates a 3
second timer. Both the snappers are impressive in outdoor conditions.
The performance of the Eluga S is satisfactory. The phone packs a
combination of MediaTek Octa-core chipset and 1 GB RAM, which is fair enough
keeping in mind the price point. My gaming experience was good. Though, the
battery life is not really great. The reason behind this could be the Octa-core
chipset and the display.
Verdict:
I think
Panasonic is taking the competition quite seriously. The Eluga-series is
impressive and the Eluga S is one of them. The features like one-handed
operation and Blink Play are amazing. The performance and gaming experience is
also great. The only thing which is not acceptable is the battery life.
The
competition is not only from the International brands like Motorola but also
from the Chinese and Indian brands. The pricing is competitive but after the
arrival of Micromax Yureka, I think people might switch.
Still, I
will rate it 4 out of 5 because the design, performance and features are good.
The battery life is the only issue which I faced while using this smartphone.
