Nokia Lumia 530
Microsoft is trying to expand their market share by launching pocket-friendly devices. They are trying to compete with brands like Motorola, Samsung and the recently launched 'Android One' devices. They have recently launched a new Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone in the market which is a successor to the world's most popular Windows Phone device, the Lumia 520. This is the review of Nokia Lumia 530.
Nokia Lumia 530 is a Dual-SIM smartphone (also available in Single-SIM variant) which runs on latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS. The device comes with 2G-3G-WiFi connectivity. The successor has a 4 inch non-IPS TFT display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The phone can support microSD card of 128 GB and has an internal memory of 4 GB. The connectivity options available in this device are Bluetooth 4.0 (with A2DP) and microUSB 2.0 port. For photography, the Lumia 530 is geared up with 5 MP non-flash camera. Sadly, the camera cannot record videos in HD resolution.
The Lumia 530 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. It consists of four-cores. For multi-tasking, it has 512 MB RAM and for gaming, it has Adreno 302 GPU. Like it's predecessors, it also has a1430 mAh Li-ion battery.
Review:
Nokia Lumia 530 is a very cool looking device. The built quality of this device is very good and I would like to appreciate Microsoft that they have changed the design of this device. It looks more similar to Lumia 630 with curved edges. The curved edges are better than the pointed one because it is more comfortable to handle the phone for longer duration.
Like it's predecessors, it also has a 4 inch display but without In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology. The internal memory is also reduced to 4 GB but it can now support an SD card upto 128 GB. With Windows Phone 8.1, you can now install your apps directly on your device external storage, so this is not a big issue. The quality of camera is also very average. It cannot record videos at 720p resolution, which is very sad.
Now talking about the performance of this Windows Phone, then I must confess that it was very average. The gaming experience was just fine.
Verdict:
According to me, the Lumia 530 is an average device and a downgraded version of Lumia 520 and 525. The only thing which got an improvement with this device is the processor. The strategy of Microsoft is very clear that they want to give a good user experience to first-time smartphone holder. It's a good move from Microsoft, but the devices like Moto E and new Android One devices are now available in the market to make the competition more tough.
I would rate it 3.5 out of 5 because of good design and built-quality and a quad-core CPU.
